Two-month-old baby dies suddenly after ’emergency incident’ at home

The little girl was pronounced dead at an address in Grangetown, North Yorkshire, this morning. Police officers visited a home in the street just before 10am

A two-month-old baby suddenly died after a major emergency services incident, police have said.

The little girl was pronounced dead at an address in Tennyson Avenue, Grangetown, North Yorkshire, this morning.

Cleveland Police said they were called to a home in the street following the sudden death of a baby.

Police officers, including crime scene investigators, attended the scene of the incident just before 10am.

Other emergency services including the Great North Air Ambulance and the North East Ambulance Service also attended.

A post-mortem examination will be held in an attempt to determine the cause of death, police said.

A spokeswoman said: “Police attended a report of the sudden death of a two-month old baby girl at an address in Tennyson Avenue, Grangetown, just before 10am on Wednesday.

“Police are always informed of sudden deaths and officers are supporting the family.

“A post-mortem will now take place to establish the cause of death.”

No further details about the tragedy have been released.

Police attend all incidents of sudden or unexpected deaths that occur outside of a hospital or medical setting, the Metropolitan Police explains.

The first officers on the scene, in uniform, are the initial representatives for the Coroner’s Office and collect information about the circumstances of the death.

They also check the body of the deceased and note the presence of any injury.

The arrival of police also allows for the ambulance service to be released and continue their duties.

In some cases, if other officers arrive, they will be a detective and a sergeant whose role is to ensure there are no issues of concern surrounding the death.

Depending on the case, a post-mortem might need to be completed in order to establish the circumstances of the death.
